For sale is a early lost wax 14K gold & genuine black opal ring by world renowned Hopi Silversmith Charles Loloma.
From the creator of the bridge between traditional Hopi art and the world of modern art. His jewelry and ceramics were ancient in materials, yet modern in design, winning respect and international patronage. From the Badger Clan, active circa 1955-1991. Residence Hotevilla, Third Mesa, Arizona.
Charles grew up in a community where everything was handmade and creativity flourished. Student of Fred Kabotie, one of the most famous painters in Hopi history. He also studied with Cherokee designer Lloyd Kiva New at Phoenix Indian School.
Loloma died in 1991. Five years later, the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts honored him posthumously with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Indian Affairs. The greatness of his contributions are reflected in hundreds of younger jewelers who were influenced and carry forward his vision.

The ring measures a size 7 on a ring sizer, 1-7/16\" long by 3/4\" wide at the rim, stands 1/2\" tall off the finger, and weighs 28.6g. The genuine Lightning Ridge Australian black opal is 1\" by 5/8\". The inside of the ring is marked with the makers hallmark.
The wall of the opening has a very tight hairline in the gold. The opal also has a hairline on the surface, it does not go all the way through.
