We are offering four (4) Civil War Volunteer Militia Pay Receipts (Connecticut Volunteers) 1862, and a Civil War Discharge Due to Disability - April, 1862.
1.) Each one of the Pay Receipts is to Major William Fitch, Pay-Master-General of the State of Connecticut ordering payment of $10 to be made to the following: (two to soldiers; and two to wives of soldiers) - John Bishop, Mrs. Betsey Bates, Mrs. Mary A. Brockett, and Martin H. Smith. Each one measures 3 1/2\" x 7 1/2\". Very Good Condition.
2.) Discharge Due to Disability - April, 1862.The discharge is for Fred Austin, a Sadler for Captain Bentley, Company A (or H), of the Ninth Regiment of Cavalry Volunteers of the State of New York. Information on Austin: born in New York; aged 37 years; 5 feet 5 1/2 inches high; dark complexion; black eyes; black hair....... Fred Austin was entitled to a discharge by reason of disability.
The document has separated into three sections, apparently separated at the fold lines, otherwise in good condition, with about a 1\" tear in upper right corner; and two tears - one on either side of the lower portion.
