For your consideration todayisthis {Rare} dug field artillery round cannonballsection from a Confederate 4.62 inch in diameter Polygonal shell.. It was designed to blow apart in 4-& 5- sided pieces with a lethal effect on massed troops near the explosion.. This Polygonal 4- sided diamond pattern cavity shell section is from a 12 pound shell,,& had a wood fusethat was intended for the Napoleon Smoothbore Cannon..This section has part of the tapered fuse channel & shows the inside casting of the top of this shell.. It\'smeasures 3- 1/2 by3- 1/4 inches at the four outside points following the curve,, & Is 1+ pound of relic iron.. It also shows the uneven rough casting& is 5/8, 3/4, & 7/8\'s of aninch thick at the differnt points,,,&1-inch thick at the fuse channel.. Therust was removed and 3- coats of a clear flat sealer was applied to preserve it.. The last 2 photos show it in as found condition..AGreat Piece of History froman exploded Confederate shell..
