CIVIL WAR LETTER - 11th RHODE ISLAND INFANTRY - EDWIN PERRY:
$35.00

A 3-page pencil letter from Edwin Perry, Company C, 11th Rhode Island Infantry

\"Hospital, Dec 10, 1862. Dear brother....The box has not arrived yet but is in Washington and will come out today if the teams go in. The Quartermaster gets a list of the boxes in Washington and posts them up where anyone of the regiment can see them and by paying twenty five cents your name will be checked and the box brought on. My health is still improving, good appetite and sleep well. I have had three boils, one on my cheek, one on my neck and one on my leg. I lay in my tent three days sick before I came to the hospital....I tried to get Capt. have me carried to the hospital but he did not mind so much about it....Dr. Perry, the Brigade Doctor, told me I should go to the hospital the next day. The next day I was carried to the hospital. I have stayed here about six weeks. When father came I was eating my breakfast. He came and sat on the corner of the bed and the tears rolled out of his eyes. I think he helped me considerable although it must have been costly doctoring. I have got so that I can put away a half a pound of beef at a meal....your affectionate brother, Edwin Perry\"

Letter in excellent condition and easily read. Rhode Island soldier letters are scarce.

Edwin Perry died in 1910 at Edgewood, Rhode Island
