Thanks to the collector who pointed out this was a Confederate Enfield .577 caliber as the Confederacy obtained from England by getting the shipments past the Union blockades of the south shipping lanes. The last time we purchased a complete wrapped cartridge was 20 years ago in Gettysburg for $125+. They\'re harder and harder to come by, as makes sense as years go by.
The last photo shows the cartridge in a baggie with a bit of black powder that has leaked out. Otherwise the wrapped cartridge is sealed remarkably well. Great display/collectible item from the Civil War.
