How Does The Electrolytic Cleaning Plate Work?
When Washing Soda (Sodium Carbonate - not Bicabonate) dissolves on the metals in the Qwicksilver plate it releases short bursts of Hydrogen, effectively an electrolytic action.
These controlled bursts of Hydrogen are just strong enough to draw off the soft ions of surface tarnish but far too weak to effect the hard ions of the metal being cleaned.
The process is harmless to human contact and to your treasured possessions. Please do not clean items containing opals or pearls as these should not be immersed in water or items that are laquered.
8 Easy Steps to Using the Qwicksilver Electrolytic Cleaning Plate
Place the Qwiksilver metal cleaning plate in the bottom of your sink
Put two heaped spoonfulls of washing soda on the plate
Pour in very hot water from the kettle to dissolve the soda crystals
Fill the sink with enough hot water to cover the items that need to be cleaned. Put the tarnished items into the water either on the plate or in contact with the plate
Leave for 15 seconds to transfer the tarnish from the item to the plate and add any other items you wish to clean
Remove the clean items and wash in soapy water
Dry the cleaned items with a dry soft cloth
Wash the Qwiksilver plate in soapy water so it is ready to use next time
