Easter in the Western Church. Christ is represented three times; rising from the sarcophagus, descending into Hell to rescue Adam and Eve and other Biblical figures, and the miracle catch of fish on Lake Tiberias. Figures in the border are family saints of the original owners. Holy figures are identified by inscription; the title appears in upper border. Good condition; negligible loss around edges. 12.5\"H x 10.5\"W $2000-3000. Fourth, Russian, Late 18th Early 19th century. Egg tempera and gold leaf on wood panel. Depicts the Head of St. John the Baptist (The Forerunner) in a platter placed on a cloth covered table. Story derives from Mark 6 about the dance of Salome, Herod\'s promise and her mother\'s wish to behead St John and have his head delivered on a platter. The Lord dressed in white holds a Russian cross surmounted globe above stylized white clouds. In the top border, old Slavonic lettering identifies St. John\'s head. Good condition; some damage to red/green border; crack in the board lower right. 7.25\"H x 5.75\"W $1000-1500. Fifth, Russian, c. 1800. Egg tempera and gold leaf on wood panel; etched relief; Byzantine style. Icon known as KAZAN Mother of God; this type of icon accompanied Russian troops when they liberated Moscow from the Poles; later became the palladium of the Romanovs. The Virgin is depicted to the shoulder with the half standing figure of Christ to Her left. Both look out as Christ gives His Blessing. The inscription in upper border identifies this type of Virgin and Child. Upper corners show Greek letters MPOV (Mother of God) and in the halo of Christ (OON) \"I Am that I Am\". Good condition; scattered paint loss; some signs of restoration, age appropriate wear. 12\"H x 9\"W $1500-1800. Sixth, Russian, Early 20th century. High quality oil print on paper; hand colored with gilt, set in a shadow box. Icon called KAZAN Mother of God. Very popular variation of Virgin and Child. A cathedral built by Tsar Paul I (1796-1801) in Petersburg housed the original of this sacred image. Abbreviations of Mother of God (MROU) and (ICXC) Jesus Christ. Good condition. 6\"H x 4\"W $150-200.

The buyer is responsible for paying all shipping costs and arranging for shipping and delivery with the seller.

Shipping, insurance packaging and handling of purchased lots is at the risk and expense of the purchaser. As a courtesy, Pacific Galleries may provide quotes for smaller, non-freight items. Within three days of the closing of the sale a shipping/packing quote will be sent to successful buyers.
