CABINET CARD PHOTO - A CRAZY CHINESE CAT LOVER IN AN OPIUM DEN - 1909 ID\'ED ENGLISH - ORIGINAL ALBUMIN OR SILVER PRINT ON PERIOD MOUNT - I am offering for the first time an incredibly rare original photographic print of an identified Chinese gentleman \"Hitting it Hard\", inside what appears to be an Opium Den while he caresses a white cat perched upon his side. The reverse of the period mount has both English and Chinese characters. I am not able to read the Chinese portion, however, the other handwriting reads, \"Woung Sing, 65 Years Old, 4-2-1909 at 10p.m.\" The image is definitely an original albumin or early silver print.
Mr. Sing, is caught laying down in this Opium Den setting with all the classic accouterments including; screens with Chinese writing in the background, a tray of paraphernalia and smoking on an Opium pipe. I am sure there was something very wrong about having a feline so close to this secondhand smoke and the reason for my \"Crazy Cat Lover\" description in the title of my listing. No matter what, you are considering one of the most unusual photographic cabinet photos containing a kitty that I have ever seen. CONDITION:Please view my highly detailed photos for the actual condition. The edges and corners of the cabinet card photo are in excellent shape considering this image is 106 years old. The print is definitely not a reproduction or from a book. The surface is clearly an albumin or an early silver print. The photographis extremely sharp, contains very nice contrast and tonal range.As I have mentioned there are a few notations on the backside of the mount in both English and Chinese. The mount measures Incredibly rare and unusual content makes this cabinet card photo highly desirable.
