A previous owner has scratched “J.Sousa” onto the dark colored reverse of this cabinet card but, despite thesimilar pince nez glasses, I don’t believe this is John Philip Sousa. The young man is very dashing, though, in hisuniform tunic and tall hat, and with two medals pinned to his chest. Photographer is “Star Gallery – Chas. G.Faist” of San Francisco. While the imageis nice and clear, it does show numerous light colored spots. The card is in fair to good condition, withwear to the edges and corners (this is mainly visible on the reverse) and apatch of missing paper on the upper left corner of the back (where someone haswritten in”45.00”).
