1810 dated South Carolina deed signed by Captain John Quattlebaum (spelled Quattlebom) and his wife, Metee. It is signed on front and on back of the document by the Captain. John Quattlebaum was made a widower in 1809 with 5 small children. That same year, he was commissioned Captain of his company (MS Commission, 2nd Division, 5th Brigade, 21st Regiment, 2nd or upper Battalion). On May 6th, 1810, he married his 2nd wife, Metee Burkett, daughter of Thomas and Margaret Burkett. Thomas was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and fought under General Francis Marion. Thomas buys the land and is mentioned in the document several times. Records say that John & Metee move back to the area where he was born and lived there. Evidently Metee\'s father, Thomas, bought the property for the newlyweds and gave it to them as a wedding gift. Among John and Metee\'s children, was Paul Quattlebaum, who became a General in the Mexican War. This rare document was purchased in Cowpens, S.C. among other documents from the Quattlebaum estate. There is some museum, archival tape on the document, but it doesn\'t touch the signatures.
