From a Tucson estate some years ago and a very seldom seen example of real American Arts and Crafts metalwork is this delightful I believe circa 1910 or so Carence Crafters Chicago stick pin, of classic aesthetic and construction features fully indicative of a making in those times. The attractive patinated copper ornament is in this case acid etched with a stylized floral motif and elevated with the desirable so called \"verdigris\" green background coloration - this last lending visual charisma and adding greatly to the overall composition. There is the clear and well referenced intertwined \"CC\" in a square mark to the back. Carence Crafters was a short lived workshop, and jewelry examples by it are rare. The CC artisan who crafted this pin clearly knew what was what, resulting in a first rate example of the genre. Weight is good for the form at about 2.6 grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is quite fine with a wonderful aura of age to the copper surfaces as seen in the pics; the verdigris green coloration is just about all there. The original pin has a slight warp near the tip from period use, mentioned for accuracy. Typical and expected and in this case minor signs of period wearing about, are here simply more evidence of the real thing. A look at those pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition - for those who know, a museum quality Carence Crafters stick pin. Size is about 3 in. long; the decorated head is about 11/16 in. vertical and 23/32 in. (a smidge under 3/4 in.) across. If you collect earlier 20th century American Arts and Crafts metal work and/or jewelry of the better sort and especially signed wearable artworks as this, or simply wish this single improvement to the ambiance of each day, this will have great meaning for you.
