This Borneo ritual mask is carved from one piece of wood and has the natural black and white pigments you see that gives it the color differences. This tribal mask purpose is unknown but the Central Borneo Kenyah Dayak were headhunters. An important role in the lives of primitive Dayak were the chase, war, and headhunting. Masks like this can only be a creation from either fears or taboos which causes primitive man to perform certain acts and avoid others. The eyes are piercing and would scare anyone. This mask is a nice addition to ones mask collection.
