Tonight I am listingan original cast iron Mechanical Bank. The bankisbeing listed tonight with . The owner of the banks has reluctantly decided to part with much of his collection. This is the \"TRICK PONY\" Mechanical Bank made by the Shepard Hardware Co. circa 1885. There are no cracks, breaks or other damage. Thebank was patented July 7,1885 byCharles Shepard and Peter Adams. The bank is in excellent condition and still has much of its original paint. They must have done a great job when painting this type of bank because much of the paint still exists considering its age. The gold gilding on the base is particularlystrong andthe yellow on the column that supports thepony is unusually vibrant and bright. The last picture is from Ridley\'s Catalog, Winter 1892.
To operate, a coin is placed in the mouth of the pony and the operating lever is pulled. In doing so, the pony lowers his head dropping the coin into the trough. The bottom plate inside the trough drops down allowing the coin to drop inside the base section. On releasingthe lever the parts return automatically to their position.
The bank is in proper working order and has the rectangular Shepard Hardware plug. The key is included. The size is approximately 7 1/2\" long, 2 1/2\" wide and 8\" high.
