Tonight I am listing an antique original cast iron Mechanical Bank. The bankis being listed with . The owner of thebankhas reluctantlydecided to part with much of his collection and continues that tonight. This is the \"DARKTOWN BATTERY\" Mechanical Bank circa 1888 designed by James Bowen and manufactured by the J.& E. Stevens Co. Initially it was known as the \"Base Ball\" bank\". It was patented January 17, 1888.This is one of the most desirable of the Mechanical Banks. There are no cracks, breaks or other damage and has wonderful vibrant paint. The bank is in near pristine condition and is a truly superior example of the \"Darktown Battery\" bank. The \"Darktown Battery\" is one of the finest of the action banks of all the mechanicals. It could be called a perfect example of what a mechanical bank should be. The last picture is from the Chas. Schmidt Toy Co\'s 1890 catalog. This bank would undoubtedly be the centerpiece of any collection.

To operate, the pitcher\'s arm is first pulled back into position In so doing, his head lowers forward and down and the parts snap like a clamp. The lever is then pressed down and immediately the pitcher throws the coin toward the catcher and his head snaps back into position. Simultaneously, the batter raises his bat high and turns his head from right to left as though watching the coin. The catcher moves his head forward and his left hand in toward his body so that the coin actually goes inside his body and drops into the base of the bank. Releasing the lever returns the various parts of the batter and catcher into their original position.

The bank is in proper working order and has the typical Stevens\' coin trap. The bank is approximately 10\" long, 2 3/4\" wide and 7 1/4\" high.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL buyers!
