Cast Iron \"HEN AND CHICK\" Mechanical Bank Original Antique c1901 Americana Toy:
$2595.00

Tonight I am listing some antique original cast iron Mechanical Banks. The banks are being listed tonight with and a reasonable starting price. The owner of the banks has reluctantly decided to part with much of his collection. This is is the \"HEN AND CHICK\" MechanicalBank c1901 manufactured by the J.& E. Stevens Co. The bank was designed by Charles Bailey, probably the best and greatest of all the designers of mechanical banks. The bank was patented on October 1, 1901 as a design patent and then assigned to Stevens. This is a one-of-a-kind bank. Unlike some of the shooting banks, of which there are many, the \"Hen and Chick\" is unique among mechanical banks. There are none like it and Charles Bailey has designed one of the most charming and attractive mechanical banks. Most of the \"Hen and Chick\" banks have been repainted or repaired. This bank is all originaland has vibrant paint. The activating \"lever\" and the \"chick\" are also original. The bank was madeusing two color variations, brown and white. The white \"Hen and Chick\" is rarer and considered to be worth more than the brown one. This is one of the most desirable of the mechanical banks, displays beautifully, and will make a valuable contribution to your bank collection.

To operate, a coin is placed in the provided slot in front of the hen. The lever is then turned over in the direction of the rear of the bank. In so doing the hen appears to cluck closing her beak rapidly. then the little chick springs forward from under the hen and pecks the coin into the bank.At the same time, the hen bends her head down as though watching her chick. The last picture shown is from one of J.& E. Stevens early catalogs.

The bank is in proper working order and has the typical Stevens\' coin trap. The bank is approximately 9 7/8\" long, 4 1/4\" high and 4\" wide. Please view the other banks up for sale tonight.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL buyers!
