Cat on Sofa, JudyMiller ceramic plate signed 1981 vintage rare excellent condition
A gray cat with alarge fluffy tail curls up on a bright yellow plump sofa, her face tucked underher paw. It’s one of Judy Miller’s living room scenes captured on a smallceramic incised plate. A rainbow painting is behind the sofa (and indeed, it’sa sofa, not a couch… your grandma had one!) and in the foreground is a largeplant, a cup of coffee and piece of pie on a coffee table.
The plate is signedand dated 1981. It’s lived with me for years, used occasionally for a fewcookies and is in excellent shape, chip-free.
Note: In the photo,the white marks on the back of the plate are gone… I shot before I scrubbed.
Measurements: 6”diameter
Miller works from herstudio in Santa Cruz, California. In her ceramics, she documents everydaymoments in everyday places (kitchen, living room, bedroom, garden, and yes,even the bathroom. Google her work and you’ll find a cat sitting on a closedtoilet seat, watching someone taking a bath!) Each plate is one of a kind.Frankly, I don’t know how she could sell any of them… they are all gems! Shehas now turned to pastels as her current creative outlet, inspired by thebeautiful scenery around her.
