The cataplana is a typical cooking pot of the Algarve region ofPortugal. The same term is used for foods made in this container.This is a kind of metal stove

formed of two almost identical concaveparts which close upon one another through a joint. The CATAPLANA isoften provided withside closures.Originally, the

cataplanas were made of copper or brass, but they arenow made of aluminum optionally with an outer layer of copper.The CATAPLANA allows to cook food in

theirsteam without having toopen the lid to mix. Indeed, the cover being attached to thecontainer, simply shake theCATAPLANA to mix the contents.

It can be used as the fire in the oven to bake more often seafood,but it may also be of the same meat or vegetables.
