A rare Full Length Celtic Sword from approximately 500 to Year 1 BCE or the golden age of Celtic Culture - the La Tene Era. This particular example was recovered from a dig in Serbia a number of years ago. The great Celtic sword was carried beneath the arm and under the armpit. As a general rule the taller or more important the Celt concerned the longer the sword. The sword would have had a scabbard (I believe parts of this remain - please refer below) with a rectangular attachment through which a chain was passed, The chain was then placed over the shoulder so that the sword hung alongside the body and under the armpit. The sword exhibits live rust which I have purposely left untreated to date preferring to try and keep the sword dry and with moisture absorbing silica. Nonetheless, unless the sword can be maintained in a fully Environmentally controlled case it should be treated with something such as \"Renaissance Micro-Crystalline Wax Polish\" which I am advised is used by major museums. I have previously treated small items such as arrowheads and they take on a pleasing lead looking finish. Unfortunately, when I sold one particular item so treated one buyer commented that it \"didn\'t look rusty and old\" so I now prefer to sell items, such as this Celtic Sword without treating leaving decisions on same up to the New Owner. I have another \"La Tene\" collection sword which is still encased in it\'s scabbard. On this sword small metal roundels are apparent on the scabbard and I note that some similar markings are apparent on this weapon also. I therefore believe fragments of the scabbard remain attached to the sword after having been buried for some 2,000 years before excavation.
