Chess statues - These four chess pieces are replicas of actual 12th century originals that were found in a small chamber that had eroded near a river bank on the isle of Lewis. At the time of their discovery they became the earliest known examples of chess pieces ever found and they now reside in the British museum. The originals were carved in whale bone and over 70 specimens were found in this secret stash. The four figures on offer here are of a Queen, a knight and a pair of celtic stele as pawns. Others will be made available in this antique format so please visit again to see what is available. Made of composition stone with an ancient patina.
Norse shield necklace - This Celtic replica disc amulet features a Viking shield with the central image representing the sun with quadrants symbolizing the four corners of the world.
Griffin amulet necklace - Included is a representation of winged griffin with dragon characteristics. The griffins and dragons of Celtic mythology were widely adopted as decorative features of domestic life and warfare, frequently seen on long boat prows or painted or woven onto sails.
* Long boat collector card.
Included with this collection is a very atmospheric long boat scene. If you look carefully at the top of the cliff you will see what could pass for a painted version of the knight based on the chess piece included in this set.
