Up for your consideration is this 8 volume lot of \"Charles Dickens Works\", published by The American News Company, Hardcover, (undated., Ca. 1880\'s). Assuming this is an incomplete set, as missing some of Dickens works (i.e., Oliver Twist, etc). But is also a rare and hard to find set by the American New Company publishing. Set is undated, but research, style and wear indicates later 1800\'s, probably 1880\'s.
Condition: Good to Good+. All bound in navy blue pebbled boards. Gilt spine lettering, all heavily faded. All have mild to moderate age and shelf-wear. All outer extremities are moderately shelf-rubbed, scraped, and soiled. A couple volumes have spots of possible moisture damage to the boards, but nothing extreme. Most corners are slightly bumped and chipped. All have floral end-pages. All pages are intact, but a few end-pages are loosening, as well as a couple inner hinges. But all pages are bound relatively tight. Age browning appearing on most pages outer perimeters. Noticed a few tears in some pages (though not completely through), primarily in the Christmas books volume, has about a 1 inch uniform rip in about 20 consecutive pages near rear of volume. But while externally has noticeable wear, all volumes appear complete. No missing pages, and unusually, no internal markings noticed. Overall, given the apparent age, a nice set of collectible books. Most books have multiple works and/or 2 volumes bound in 1 book.
