This Cheyenne ca 1870 buffalo horn spoon is typical of ladles used by Native American Great Plains tribes of the 1800\'s. These ladles were reserved for special meals, sacred events, and sweat lodge ceremonies. This exquisite piece is handcrafted from a bull buffalo horn, which had been heat-shaped, bear-oiled, and rubbed with beeswax to a natural, satin finish.
The handle is decorated with ca 1890 dyed French silk ribbon on braintan deerhide ties along with handmade ca 1930 tin cones with feather fluffs and an antique translucent green glass bead.
