Chinese~ Chimes~ Old~ Antique, baked enamel inlay~

Thisis a set of eight chimes of different sizes, graduated from smallest tolargest. They are enameled inlaid in brass inside an out. This is a highquality piece and not some “knock-off”.

Thehardwood frame is hand-hewn,( entirely hand carved) carved and isRosewood.

Theframe for the set of chimes is Thirteen and One Half inches in length (at thetop).

Thetop of the frame is slanted and measures from Six inches down to about Five inches.

Thebase is about Two and One half inches wide or deep and is Twelve and ThreeEighths inches long, at the bottom.

Thelargest chime is almost Two inches tall by 1.5 to 1.25 in diameter of theopening at the bottom (they are oblong at the bottom). The top of this chime isOne inch in diameter at the very top (a perfect circle). The smallest chime is:One and One Eighth inches in diameter at the bottom and 5/8 of an inch at thetop.

Thereare a total of eight chimes, in all.

Thisis a real prize of a find. The chimes alone can sell for as much as Fortydollars each (inlay Enamel).

Ibelieve that even the triangle shape metal chime hangers are each individuallyhand made. When looking at the close up picture of the chime hangers (brass)notice how they are a flat piece of metal and the design on them is a separatewire hammered and soldered to the flat part and they do not appear to beidentical. I am trying to emphasize that this is not a tourist, export piece bypointing out its uniqueness. I do not know if it is Japanese or Chinese. Themany different mystical symbols on the bell chimes are many different and someidentical but all have different mystical meanings.

Allof these little details contribute to the piece as a whole as being trulyauthentic and of not only masterful craftsmanship but that of a piece with deepmystical meanings.

Theframe is entirely hand carved, even what appears to be sawed stock, it isactually hand whittled. Dating thispiece is difficult, however it bares all of the hallmarks of being indigenousto Asia and that it is very old.

This is a great anthropological and cultural item,and the mystical use of, dates back through the millennia.
