CHINESE PORCELAIN DECORATIVE EGG SATSUMA STYLE FLORAL & GEISHA ON ATTACHED BASE.

Hand painted porcelain egg (Satsuma?), painted in polychrome enamels and goldgilt. It features floral patterns and five Geishas on each side. Some details are inlow relief while many are outlined and detailed in gold gilt with beading all over. Moriage Oriental, vibrant colors throughout. It is a stunning accent piece for anydecor. Perfect gift for any occasion.

Maker is unknown as it is not marked. It is done in the Royal Satsuma style and has an attached base. Measures 7 inches high x 4.25 inches wide with a 3 inch diameter base. It is in overall excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.

Research info: Moriage is usually unmarked. So, most people figure if itisn\'t marked, it isn\'t valuable! Well, that is dead WRONG!

Moriage is a special type of raised decoration used on someJapanese pottery. Sometimes pieces of clay were shaped by hand and applied tothe item; sometimes the clay was squeezed from a tube in the way we apply cakefrosting. One type of moriage is called Dragonware by collectors. Moriagepieces were often unmarked and were known for their highly stylized decorationsand gilding.
