Circa 1899 Two Man Jail Cell with Beds Elwood, IN Prison Iron and Steel 2 Cells:

Measures 109\" wide x 84\" tall x 84\" deep. The cell is a free standing functional unit finished on all sides. The sides, back, and center wall are plate steel. Front wall and ceiling are thick steel bars. Both doors are functional. The cell was removed from the basement Elwood, Indiana\'s City building. The City Building was built in 1899 by the architecture firm of J.F. Alexander & Son of Lafayette, IN. The cells were manufactured by Architectural Iron Works of Muncie, Indiana. The Indiana Historical Society used this piece in several exhibits and then decommissioned it. They did have to make some cuts and repairs to the cell during removal and reinstallation. The largest cut runs vertically along the seam of the center wall. We were able to reassemble the cell in the warehouse without having this area welded. There are also patches welded to the bottom of the back wall in the cell with beds and the back half of the center wall. The original steel was too far gone. There isa hole in the back wall hidden behind the lower bunk. This was used as an escape route for their live actors during exhibits. The Indiana Historical Society installed a barred window in the center wall between the two cells. Additional pictures, information, and measurements available upon request.
