Civil War Badge-Medal; General Ambrose Burnside & Parke; 9th Corps; VERY RARE:
$380.00

Up for sale is an extremely rare piece dating from the American Civil War. I bought this item from Jacques Noel Jacobsen, Jr. (American Civil War Antiques Dealer) fifteen years ago. I am sure you will never see this same piece again. This is a Civil War Medal commemorating the Ambrose Burnside Coastal Expedition in 1862. I believe it commemorates the Hatteras Campaign leading up to the capture of Roanoke Island, North Carolina during the days of February 7-8 of 1862. This 9th Corps Badge-Medal was officially adopted in April of 1864 by order of General Burnside and was made by Joseph K. Davison probably no earlier than 1865. John Parke was a sub-general under Burnside who served during this expedition. They were both Commanders of the 9th Corps. The \"48\" stands for the 48th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers who were pivotal in the North Carolina Coast Burnside Expedition of January - July of 1862. The regiment didn\'t actually fight in the final battle for Roanoke Island, but they played an important role that led up to capture of the island. The medal and connecting cloth are all secure, and the pin is intact and in great shape. However, the catch piece of the pin is missing. There are some stains on the cloth. The elements of the medal are in great condition. Of course there is some slight discoloration on the medal as well. Along with this medal, I am sending the buyer an original copy of \'The New York Times\' that is dated February 21, 1862 (a $55 value). This newspaper details the Roanoke Island Expedition and discusses General Burnside\'s and General John Parke\'s battle, including died, wounded, captured, and other details regarding each regiment. This medal will come in a protective case with extra cotton mesh surrounding the medal. The cover of the case is glass so you will be able to view the medal in the case. The case will have extra protection around it. You will never find this artifact for sale anywhere, again. Own an original piece of Civil War history. Also, do you know where the term \"Side Burns\" came from? Yes, it comes from the Civil War General and Hero named Ambrose Burnside. He had those side burns running down below his ears. I will ship this item via USPS with tracking and insurance included. If you have any questions regarding this item, please feel free to email me. Thanks for stopping by. Have a nice day.
