The model 1860 saber was made slightly lighter than the model 1840 and was theprimary saber of the Federal Calvary by the end of the war. Features include wooden handle with a swell covered with leather and a wire grip. Brass hilt has three branches, brass pommel cap and guard are unadorned. The steel blade has a fat back with a narrow and wide fuller stopped at thericasso. The ironscabbard has iron mountings. Marks on thericasso read as \" EMERSON & SILVER, TRENTON,NJ and US/J.M. 1864, with an additional inspector mark of \"J.M.\" on the pommel. The leather wrap and wire are fully intact and in very good shape for it\'s age. The leather washer is intact and the blade is very clean. The scabbard is intact. Overall, this sword with it\'sgreat condition, desirable civil war date, and matching inspector marks in three places, makes this an excellent piece for any collection.
