Civil War Cdv Photo Autographed 5th Wisconsin Volunteers Kia Ft Fisher Gallant :
A rare opportunity to acquire an autographed CDV of a gallant soldier from the 5th Wisconsin Volunteers, John B. Doughty, who enlisted May 18, 1861, fought in almost every major battle in the East during the war, and then died in a heroic charge at Fort Fisher April 2, 1865, one week prior to Lee's surrender. Doughty rose through the ranks to the rank of Captain at the time of his untimely death. The CDV is signed during the time he was a Lieutenant. The photo came from a CDV photo album from Platteville Wisconsin that I purchased yesterday from the family. The photo has a very slight warp to it at the bottom, clipped corners, and slight soiling. The photo comes in a hard plastic holder which flattens the warp. The Brady image could have been taken in the Washington D.C. studio
This a partial list of the major battles that John Doughty fought in during his service with the 5th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. A complete list of the battles will be included in the shipment to the winning buyer.
Malvern Hill, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Maryes Heights, Gettysburg, Battle of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, Cold Harbor, First Assault on Petersburg, Battle of Winchester, Fall of Petersburg and death at Fort Fisher Aug. 2, 1865. It is so sad that he endured so much, fought in so many battles, and then was KIA one week prior to Lee's surrender.
Other CDV's from this album will be listed in other sales, but this is the pinnacle of the collection.
