Civil War Confederate Gen J.E.B. Stuart ALS Telegraph May 1, 1963-with LOATelegraph to his wife telling her that he \"is again in command of the cavalry. AP Hill having reported for duty.\" What he didn\'t know, was the following day, Stonewall Jackson would fall to friendly fire the next day. \"I can go after Stoneman. He is said to be crossing the Rapidan (River). (I\'m) Going back (to you with) a glorious victory at Chancellorsville.\"This document was given to the current owner, military historian Dr Edward M Coffman, by the granddaughter of General Stuart. She was Mrs Flora Old of Norfolk, Va.It\'s probable that the handwriting is of the telegraph operator rather than Stuart. Either way, still a significant piece of Civil War history. In a biography about Stuart by Col. John W. Thomason, called J.E.B. Stuart, the telegram is quoted and recognized. The document has been washed and de acidified, and sealed in a archive quality laminated pouch. All this was done by the Wisconsin Conservation Service Center at the State Historical Society of Wisconsin in 1992. Page is approx. 5\" x 9\". There are a few pin sized holes in the documents along prior creases.
