original Civil War Confederateletterdated January the 11 1863. This letter was written by a soldier named William E. Vanauken. Some of the writing is hard to read I translated the best I could. The letter reads:

Dear Brother and sister I did not send that letter I have bin a wating to get the captin to rite me an order he sees that he will rite it tomorrow.........i gues that we wont get our pay this month.................we will soon set down to eat our harde tacks an cofee......their is another boy in the tentwith us we have got two beds made out.............William E. Vanauken
