Edmund Schriver [1812 1899] was aMajor General in the American Civil War who began his military career upon his graduation from West Point in 1833, and served with the 2nd U.S Artillery during the Seminole War. He resigned from the army in 1846, and re-entered the service as a lieutenant colonel upon the outbreak of the Civil War and was placed second in command of the 11th U.S Infantry and commanded at the Battle\'s of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. Promotion followed rapidly, first to chief of staff, 1st Corps Army of the Potomac, thento colonel and inspector-general in March 1863, a brevetted brigadier general 1864, and major general in 1865. After the war he served as the Inspector General of the army and retired in 1881. Listed for sale is an [ALS] autograph letter signed by Edmund Schriver.The letter is a requisition for supplies and is dated within the request, December 1845, andis signed \'\'E. Schriver\'\'in blackfountain pen. The letter measures 8.00 x3.50 inches,it has edge wear, wrinkling to the pageand a small tear to the left edgeotherwise it is in good condition.
