William Maynadier [1806 1871] was abrevet brigadier general in the United States Army who graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1827. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1832, captain in 1838, major and lieutenant-colonel in 1861, colonel in 1863, and brevet brigadier-general in 1865. He served as an aid to General Winfield Scott in the Black Hawk war, and the same for General Alexander Macomb during the Florida war. He was frequently assigned to ordnance duty while in the artillery throughout his career and was greatly valued for his ability and experience. In 1862, he was charged and acquittedof disloyalty when cannon and munition were transferredto a fort which was not completed and ready to receive arms. In 1864, he was appointedas inspector of arsenals and depots.Listed for sale is an [DS]document signed by William Maynadier on the letterhead of Ordnance Officer,Washington and dated August 23, 1856. The document is partially printed andis a receipt for Ordnance and OrdnanceStores being accounted for and the document is signed \'\'W. Maynadier Capt of Ordnance\'\'in black fountain pen. The letter measures 8.00 x 10.00 inches,it has expected mail folds, trivial wearand a few spots oftape mounting residue on the frontof the page otherwise it is in very goodcondition.
