original Civil Warletterincluding the cover that belonged to Chaplain Alonzo Hall Quint who was in the 2nd Massachusetts.This was a letter written to him. The letter is dated Lawrence Mass August 30th 1862. I currently have other letters listed that belonged to this person. Some of the writing is hard to read I translated the best I could. The letter reads:

Revd Sir

Having seen in the Report of the wounded of Comp B. of the 2nd Mass Regt in the action of the 24 and 25th of May the name of James Carney I wrote to the Captain Wm. B. Williams to know if it was my Son as I have not seen him of some time But before he got my letter he got killed at Cedar mountain his letters being returned to his Father he kindly answered my letter stating that he could not tell wether there were one of that name in the camps or not recommending you as the most likely person to know I am induced to write you this note; so if you will be kind enough to let me know you confer a great favor and ever be rememberd by a Loving Mother..........Ellen Carney
