original Civil Warletterdated Camp 14th N.H.V. 1st Brig 2d Div. 19th AC Near Berryville Va Aug. 17th 1864. The letter is not signed at the end so I think this could be a partial letter. Some of the writing is hard to read I translated the best I could. The letter reads:

After a series of most curious and inexplacable movements we find ourselves encamped on exactly the same ground we occupied one week ago today at the end of our first days march.................we were ready in five minutes formed line stacked arms & were then notified that were to fall back to Winchester rapid by & quickly as possible...........we were on the line & marched up to the W. \"pike\" and waited for the rest of the Div...............I learn tonight that the reason of our sudden & rapid movement backward was occasioned by the advance of Longstreet up the valley with a large force & that we are to fall back on Harpers Ferry tomorrow............All the boys from K speak of having heard from home & that you were very anxioust about me. I am feeling unusually well now & they say am the loneliest looking man in the left wing
