Civil War Archive13 civil was soldiers letters (most with envelopes) as well as discharge papers and land deeds belonging to Private Joel Rice of the 141st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.
Letters are in pristine condition with little to no fading. Letters were written from the area of the Rappahanock while the 141st was in the south with the army of the Potomac. Letters describe military actions and commanders, soldiers daily life and information about family & neighbors. Most letters dated the fall and winter of 1862.
Also included are 5 deeds from Bradford Co., PA, a certificate of draft exemption dated 1865 and a discharge certificate.
