Letter from Melville C. Zener to his father (Edward) backhome in Indiana. Envelope is marked “Soldiers Letter” and is signed by MajorAlex Fowler, commander of the 15th infantry. Melville talks aboutburying two friends and the location of their graves. How he went to one afterhe was shot and helped him into the ambulance wagon, but learned the next dayhe had died. He included a P.S. on a scrap of paper talking about how they bake“bisquits” in the field. Both Melville and his brother Calvin (10 years older)died in the war.
