This Civil War document is a CERTIFICATE TO BE GIVEN TO VOLUNTEERS AT THE TIME OF THEIR DISCHARGE TO ENABLE THEM TO RECEIVE THEIR PAY, &c. It reads:I certify, on honor, that Lozine Poor a Private of Captain HS Pennell Company A of the 11th Regiment of Maine Volunteers, of the State of Maine, born in Fryeburg, State of Maine, aged 18 years; 5 feet 5 1/2 inches high: dark complexion, Hazel eyes, Black hair, and by occupation a Farmer, having joined the company on its original organization at ______, and enrolled in it at the muster into the service of the United States at Fryeburg, on the fifth day of February, 1862, (or was mustered in service as a recruit, by Lieutenant SB Bean, at Fryeburg, on the fifth day of February, 1862, to serve in the Regiment) for the term of 8 years; and having served honestly and faithfully with his Company in 11 Reg Vol, to the present date, is now entitled to a discharge by reason of __________.
The said Lozine Poor has not been paid since enlisted was last paid by Paymaster ____ to include the _____ day of _____, 186_, and has pay due him from that time to the present date, and also pay for the use of his horse, )having been mounted during the time,) and he is entitled to pay and subsistence for traveling to place of enrolment and whatever other allowances are authorized to volunteer soldiers, or militia, so discharged. He has received $25 dollars advanced by the United States on account of clothing.
There is to be stopped from him, on account of the State of _____, or other authorities, for clothing, &c., received on entering service, _____dollars; also, for expenses of subsistence for traveling from place of enrolment to the place of rendezvous, amounting to ____dollars; and on account of the United States for extra clothing received in kind from_____and for other stoppages, viz:_____
amounting to ___dollars;
and he has been subsisted for traveling to his place of enrolment, up to the _____186_.
He is indebted to _____, Sutler, _____dollars.
Given in duplicate at Stone U.S. General Hospital, this 26 day of April, 1862.
