\"How much room would a rocking chair take in a covered wagon? Plenty, when space was of great necessity. How about a Collignon folding rocking chair? How much room would that take? Very little, because folded it was in the shape of a quarter moon. Nicholas, Claudius, and Adam Collignon invented the folding rocking chair March 10, 1868. There were many other variations invented. Regular folding, deck, lawn, and variations of these. The whole town of Westwood New Jersey, (now River Vale) in Bergen county, worked at the factory on the Hackensack river.\"

This is the first part of an article on the internet about the history and discription of the Collignon Family and the chairs that they invented and manufactured. This article is very well done and informative and is a must read for anybody that is interested in antique rocking chairs. chair has been in our family for many many years and is at least 100 years old. I believe it to be in very good original condition and except for one crack that has been repaired, ithas never been restored. This chair is very collectable and is represententive of the great history of furnuture making in the US. This chair is a must have for any body who collects US made antique rocking chairs. There are many \"copies\" of this chair offered for sale but very few originals are ever offered for sale.
