This piece was acquired from a German geologist friend who knew the mine owner of the Bessie G and was able to personnally collect there for a few days back in 1999!
Here is a Nice vein specimen of coloradoite (HgTe) with native gold and minor calaverite [AuTe2] on quartz from the Bessie G. Mine in Colorado. The piece measures 7.0 x 4.1 x 2.6 cm, weighs 2.7 ounces, and contains several discontinuous patches of steel gray metallic coloradoite that is associated with tin white calaverite and a few tiny specks of native gold (gotta look under magnification to see the gold). The well-crystallized quartz has a bluish-gray hue to it attesting to the richness of the coloradoite in the piece, and the ore minerals are quite interesting when viewed with a loop. It comes professionally labeled with both our label and an earlier original collection label and ready for immediate display.
The Bessie G Mine in La Plata County, Colorado, USA is a former gold & silver mine located at nearly 12,000 foot elevation about 28 miles from the town of Durango that was discovered in 1880 and first operated as the Egyptian Queen Mine until changing ownership and name in 1891 and becoming the Bessie G. Mine. It was in sporadic small scale ore operation from 1880 until closing in the mid 1980\'s, then was mined for specimens for a time back in the early late 1990s and early 2000\'s. Mining at this elevation is not an easy thing!We are offering this fine piece for a SUPER LOW startingoffer and , so lets have some fun!
