Large, Nearly Life Sized
Native American Indian BustAs with most cherished collectibles,
there is always a back-story.For this listing, I present you with a life sized bust
of a Native American Indian.I believe it is a statue of \" Quanah Parker \"
a famous Comanche Indian Chief and Politician,
although that opinion is unconfirmed.I purchased this bust back in the late 1970’s.
I was traveling en route to Ohio from North Carolina.
I was in the Military and preparing
to leave for a deployment to Germany. I was drawn to a roadside ANTIQUE SALE that had
many interesting offerings visible from the road.
It was there that I first saw this piece. I was instantly affected and enamored
by it and the feelings it had invoked in me.
I was drawn to it with an instant admiration
of not only the detail, but also the coloration
and texture of the bust. While not an artist, I appreciated art and
noticed that the colors and patterns used in this
particular work were just magnificent.It instantly conjured up a feeling of the Old West
and the beauty of this country’s natural landscape.
It utilizes texture and colors that illustrate the layers
of early American history. I just had to buy it !!!After attempting to explain my adamant
decision to my recent bride,
(and against her better wishes), I did. It was a long argument at the time primarily
because as a young Army serviceman,
I really could not afford the purchase.
We did not \"need\" it and we did
not even have a home at the time to display it in.
I realized that this particular opportunity
would never present itself again and
I needed to act immediately to secure this item. I have owned and proudly displayed it for over forty years.
It has always been of special significance to me.
As I raised my family and moved through several residences,
this item has lasted far beyond the end of that first marriage.Whenever someone notices it in my home,
they too can feel the instant connection to it.
The artist that created it was responsible for the patterns in
the coloration and the way the colors and patterns dance
using the swirl cast layers. The design would endure forever. I especially think that if an art item
can evoke an experience in others,
through a \"feeling\" or connection,
it will always have a higher value.The colors used in this creation instantly remind you
of the dramatic geological features and the multicolored
layers of rock and steep mesa walls, found in the Southwest
and more specifically the Palo Duro Canyon area in Texas.I have included photo\'s of \" Lighthouse Peak \" in that area
and also one picture of Quanah Parker from the web.This is a very solid and very heavy art piece in great condition.
It weighs almost 40 Pounds. It measures approximately
15-3/4\" tall x 12\" wide L to R and approximately 7\" deep.There are no signatures or makers markings.
It appears to have been \" swirl cast \" with
a fired clay or perhaps a clay and resin material.
I cannot absolutely guarantee or identify
the artists composition materials.
This high quality art piece receives a lot of attention.It does have small signs of handling through the years
but has no significant damage or breakage.Please review the pictures provided and
