Made in London, England 1920 early 30s. These early 1st issue Dinkie 526 models are made of Caesin an early form of plastic made from Cows milk. Pre Celluloid. Caesin takes colour amazing but is prone to crazing with age. This example has the most highly sort after colourway ever made in Harlequin. Full of colour and amazing pattern. Very handsome pen indeed.Compared to Black hard rubber pens of the time these must have seemed like bejewelled rays of pure Joy. A splash of sunshine in an otherwise Grey world.Designed for Women to wear around the neck on a chain or Ribbon as was the fashion of the day. The Dinkie range wasadvertised as the worlds smallest practical pen. Of all the Dinkie Range the 526 is the smallest. Perfect to fit in any size pocket, purse or note book/diary etc.
The pen has no cracks, splits or repairs etc. It has the usual crazing found on these Casein examples and a little patina expected of age. The Lever, Ring Band and Cap Ring top are Yellow Gold Plated. All superb with only the lightest of patina expected of age and use. Overall once in the hand to the naked eye looks very special still. Even by modern standards very colourful. As beautiful as this pen is to look at it writes even better. Very creative nib full of personality.
