This has lead to cracks and even a desired breakthrough where the meteorite seemingly struck the coin. The coin is made of ½ oz silver 999 with antique finish with the worldwide mintage of 2 500 pieces.
The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II and the following inscriptions: the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin and its issuing country.
The reverse is intentionally overstruck, leading to cracks and even a desired breakthrough where the meteorite seemingly struck the coin. During this monitored destruction process, the break points occur at random, making each coin unique. The Tamdakht meteorite fell near Ouarzazate, Morocco on December 20, 2008 producing a strewn field of approximately 25 kilometres by 2 kilometres and two small impact craters.
