Cool 18th C. French or German Shell Guard Sword possibly a Naval Pirate Cutlass:
$579.00

Interesting early sword, most likely to date from around mid to late 1700s, in French style brass clam shell hilt and having a lion head pommel which may suggest German or even English origin, bare wooden grip with traces of black lacquer, possibly original. Remounted at some point but very long time ago with a straight quill back blade slightly reduced at the tip over the years and having rough blunt edge. Few damages to the guard, dents and wear overall, 1% play to the guard. Very roughly made weapon, possibly built and used by a pirate or such as sidearm or dirk type of a weapon made solely for thrusting. Interesting and distinctive 4 notches on the lower guard, typical to something the pirate would do to indicate the number of kills with this weapon. Blade measurement 26\" X 1\".Buyer must be 18 years or older.
