Up for purchase is a new in box (NIB), die-cast metal, Limited Edition No. 1713 of only 2900, Corgi US51904, Bell H-13/HTL-USMC-HMX-1, Korean War, Series II,. It is 1:48 Scale (8.25 inches long, 9.25 in. rotor).

The HMX-1 was the first helicopter squadron in the United States Marine Corps, commissioned in 1947. Its \"X\" designation meant it was initially an experimental unit. Shortly afterward, in 1948, HMX-1 received its first Bell H-13s or as the Marines called them HTLs (Helicopter Training Light). In 1949 the Chief of Naval Operations designated the Bell HTL the primary observation aircraft for the U.S. Marine Corps. From 1947 until 1953 HMX-1 used the HTLs to train all new Marine helicopter pilots. They would then go on to receive advanced training in heavier helicopters.

In Korea the HTLs were used in a number of mountaintop-hopping roles: observation, medical evacuation, and administration flights all around the northwestern area of South Korea, near the DMZ (demilitarized zone). Eighty percent of all front-line evacuations in Korea were attributed to U.S. Army H-13s, as well as a smaller contingent of Marine Corps HTLs.

This Corgi model is based on an HTL on display at the Marine Corps Air-Ground Museum in Quantico, Virginia. It will make a great addition to any die-cast collection.
