My minimal research found a few other examples of clown paintings by this same artist. Apparently it was painted by Imre Nagy, a Hungarian artist, and several of them have sold for hefty sums. This one is particularly disturbing, but if you like clowns and monkeys, this is the one for you!
It measures 18\" by 24\" and 25 1/2\" x 31 1/2\" with the original gilt carved wood frame. It looks to be from possibly the 50\'s or 60\'s...but I\'m no expert so I can\'t be sure.
There are a good number of condition issues. Obviously it wasn\'t stored properly and there are scuff marks and paint loss throughout the canvas, but the image is still vivid...and weird. The frame itself has some damage on the edge as well (last pic).
