YYYYYou are looking at a most wonderful carved head of Christ in a crucifix type form--all hand carved from the same piece of wood(the face--I believe olive wood) and the crucifix is from cedar and the contrast is nice.
The piece is another that came from my grandmothers estate when she died in 1961 at the age of 89. She was a very pious Christian who went to mass every day of her life(that I know of anyway) and her home had relics of her beliefs throughout. I am listing several this week as I am now 70 and am unloading many many items.If you have any questions please do not hesitate toa sk them.This piece has a wonderful countenance about it--a peacefulness that she used to remark on for some reason--now that I am looking at it closely--I understand more of what she was saying..look very closely at the photos and maybe you will feel the same way...itis a remarkable piece and relief.You won\'t be disappointed in this piece--it really is br eathtaking...oh I forgot--itis 10 inches by 10 inches and the relief sticks out maybe 2-3 inches.Thanks again and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask them--I am very proud of this piece as was my gram...and I almost forgot to mention that it is signed on the verso...looks like WH and some numbers..Thanks once more...
