Marvel Comics1979-83
Daredevil was the first super-hero who really captured my imagination. It almost certainly had something to do with the heady mix of ninjas, the seedy underworld of the Kingpin, Bullseye, and of course Elektra, that was served up by Mr Frank Miller at the time that I was avidly reading my first Marvel comics...
This sale is for Frank Miller\'s complete 1st stint on Daredevil, from issue 158-191, which still stands head and shoulders above almost any other comic super-hero run. It\'s just so damn entertaining! And if you haven\'t had the chance to read it yet then you\'re in for a treat.
There\'s no writing inside the comics. There\'s no tape. There are no staple pulls, or detached centrefolds. There are no missing pages. There are no coupons cut out. There are no hidden surprises.
The comics have been stored in bags and boards in a cool, dry room, and have only been removed for the photos below, showing the actual comics the winning buyer will receive. The average grade is a gorgeous Very Fine Minus (7.5), with almost every comic in the collection having high cover gloss, white pages, shiny staples, and sharp corners and edges. All the comics lie flat and have tight bindings.
I\'ve included high res photos of as many of the key issues as I could at the bottom of the listing, and I think they give a very accurate reflection of the condition of the collection. If there\'s a particular issue, or back cover you\'d like a photo of that hasn\'t been included just let me know and I\'ll be happy to forward it to you.
If you scroll down there\'s a complete list of all the individual grades, as well as the Overstreet description of the assigned grades, and a bit about me.
Enjoy!

DAREDEVIL 159-191 in the above grades - Average Very Fine Minus (7.5) - $598
Overstreet Grade Description
“Very Fine Plus (8.5) – Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book’s appearance by a perceptible amount.”
“Very Fine (8.0) - An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. Sharp, bright and clean with supple pages. A comic book in this grade has the appearance of having been carefully handled. A limited accumulation of minor bindery defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. A 1/4 inch crease is acceptable if colour is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. No obvious soiling, staining or other discolouration, except for minor foxing. Spine is almost flat with no roll. Possible minor colour break allowed. Staples may show some discolouration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost very minor to minor stress lines may be present. No rust migration. In rare cases a comic was not stapled at the bindery and therefore has a missing staple; this is not considered a defect. Any staple can be replaced on book up to Fine, but only vintage staples can be used on books from Very Fine to Near Mint. Mint books must have original staples. Paper is tan to cream and supple. No hint of acidity in the odour of the newsprint. Centrefold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.”
“Very Fine Minus (7.5) – Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book’s appearance by a perceptible amount.”
“Fine/Very Fine (7.0) – An above average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show with interior yellowing or tanning allowed, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted or abraded. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. No obvious soiling, staining or other discolouration, except for minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate colour break. Staples may show some discolouration. Slight staple tears and a slight accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. In rare cases a comic was not stapled at the bindery and therefore has a missing staple; this is not considered a defect. Any staple can be replaced on book up to Fine, but only vintage staples can be used on books from Very Fine to Near Mint. Mint books must have original staples. Paper is tan to cream, but not brown. No hint of acidity in the odour of the newsprint. Centrefold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.”
“Fine Plus (6.5) – Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book’s appearance by a perceptible amount.”
“Fine (6.0) - An above average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Eye appeal is somewhat reduced because of slight surface wear and the accumulation of small defects, especially on the spine and edges. A Fine condition comic book appears to have been read a few times and has been handled with moderate care. Some accumulation of minor bindery defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a major reduction in reflectivity. Blunted or abraded corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discolouration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4 inch spine split or severe colour break. Staples show minor discolouration. Minor staple tears and an accumulation of stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. In rare cases a comic was not stapled at the bindery and therefore has a missing staple; this is not considered a defect. Any staple can be replaced on book up to Fine, but only vintage staples can be used on books from Very Fine to Near Mint. Mint books must have original staples. Paper is brown to tan and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. No hint of acidity in the odour of the newsprint. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centrefold may be loose but not detached.”
About UsI\'ve been buying and selling comics for over 30 years. All of the sales I\'m listing are from my personal collection. They\'re either comics I\'ve upgraded, or doubles, or issues that I purchased as part of a larger lot that I don\'t collect myself. They\'ve all been stored in bags and boards in a cool, dry, smoke-free room away from sunlight.
Every single comic that I\'m listing has been carefully checked and graded by me in the last week or so. To do that I\'ve inspected each and every page, as well as the front and back cover, paying special attention to the staples, checking for cover gloss front and back, holding them up to the light to catch any hard to find creases, bends and other hard-to-spot flaws. When I assign a grade to a comic, I\'m doing my absolute best to be accurate. I\'ll include the Overstreet description of the assigned grade, so you can be sure of what to expect. I constantly refer to the 3rd edition of the Overstreet Comic Book Grading Guide - and if you\'re not familiar with it I highly recommend it. Especially when it comes to older comics it\'s a real eye-opener...
