Jim Dine was born in 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He studied at the University of Cincinnati and received a BFA from Ohio University in 1957. He currently lives and works in New York.
When Jim Dine arrived to New York it coincided with the beginnings of the Pop Art movement and the \"Happenings\" in which he took part. Like the Pop artists Dine is interested in a concrete and recognizable subject matter that is derived from the objects and values of popular culture. However, unlike the Pop artists, Dine\'s process of transforming the observable and material world is varied and does not parody commercial reproduction techniques. His recurrent themes of hearts, flowers, birds, tools and portraits not only hold rich personal expression but have become cultural icons.
Dine has had a creative printmaking career. He has a history of 40 years as a painter, sculptor, printmaker and photographer with many accomplishments and worldwide recognition. Dine had many one person exhibitions across the world and his works are included in collections of leading museums.
