DON SWANN Signed ETCHING St Mary\'s County LONG LANE FARM FRANCIS SCOTT KEY Print:
$99.00

Here is a historic one of a kind framed Don Swann etching numbered 118 of 300 which was hung in the lobby in the Francis Scott Key Hotel in Frederick, Maryland. For one of the hotel\'s probably last interior design updates, this etching was one of 24 which were chosen to represent each county of Maryland and were one of the first things seen entering the Francis Scott Key Hotel back in the 50\'s or 60\'s. Framed with each etching is a description of the location. Long Lane Farm is a 17th century home built before 1674.
***Most recent info on Long Lane Farm is that it is now a RACEHORSE RESCUE farm.***
This is one of two Don Swann etchings which were part of the hotel collection which included a numbered Don Swann etching from each county of an historic landmark. Long Lane Farm is at the end of a road and on the Chesapeake Bay. History of the structure is explained in the narrative which is framed with the etching. His son, Don Swann, Jr., wrote each of these narratives after much research per location. There were framed in classic black frames with gilded gesso edges and metal beading on the inside.
What a lovely and appealing lobby the Francis Scott Key Hotel must have had with such appropriate and local art on their walls! The frame is 14\" wide by 21\" tall while the actual etching is 7 5/8\" long by 6 1/2\" tall.
***Please check out the other Swann etching on sale of Sophia\'s Dairy in Harford County, Maryland.***
Don Swann originally produced these etchings for a collection in the book \"Colonial and Historic Homes\" and was published in 1939 in Baltimore. Swann took this huge project on starting in 1934 and when many of the homes were falling into ruin. It took 5 years.
