This rough animation drawing of Princess Daphne was created by animator John Pomeroy in development of a scene in the animated arcade video game. Daphne is the lusciously beautiful princess held prisoner by a dragon, and she must be rescued by Dirk the Daring, who is guided through numerous perils by the player. Although Daphne is gazing upon her hero in this scene, Dirk is not shown in this drawing.
Don Bluth, John Pomeroy, and Gary Goldman and their team of animators produced the groundbreaking interactive video game utilizing traditional animation and laserdisc technology; it was a huge hit in its release in 1983 and was followed later in the year bySpace Ace.Dragon\'s Lairis one of three video games in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution.
This original is signed by John Pomeroy, one of the studio\'s principals and supervising animators from the founding of the Bluth Studio to the early 1990s.The artist wrote the circled number \"11\" at upper right to mark this drawing\'s place in the scene.

Please understand that it would be impossible to include a reputable certificate of authenticity with every single piece of production animation art because of the fact that it takes thousands of these cels to create a scene in your favorite cartoon from yesteryear. The studios did not issue certificates of authenticity to each piece that left their buildings. Many certificates of authenticity are merely created by someone with a computer and signing off stating they believe it to be authentic usually without knowing its journey into their hands. And with the help of , these cels are passing through many peoples ownership.
As to how you can determine this to be authentic is by looking for the \"tells\" of what a production drawing or cel should have. First you want to check the paper or cel. Look for the peg holes, paper/cel size, and see if you can determine the paper used (some have water marks). Second, you want to check for markings near the peg holes. These identify the item as to what show, episode, or other use for the item. The number in the corner is used for its sequence in the scene. These drawings and cels sole purpose was to be used to create the cartoon, not to be kept as art.
