DRAMATIC 19TH c FRENCH NEEDLEPOINT TAPESTRY PILLOW ~PORTRAIT OF WOMAN :

You are looking at an early 19th century French wool needlepoint and petit point tapestry turned into a 21st century pillow. The woman is in a cartouche. Above the cartouche there appears to be a swaged valance with two big tassels in the middle. The needlepoint area measures 9” x 12”. The needlepoint is in very good condition. I see no holes or missing stitches. It is a bit faded as you would expect from a textile this old. Please see photo of the back of the needlepoint. The colors are pale french blue, burgundy, lavender, purple, gold, olive, dark blue, brown and more.

I used a burgundy, blue and gold fancy braid around the needlepoint over a 19th century French gold metallic 1.5” wide vestment trim with a scalloped edge. This is on soft plush burgundy cotton velvet. I finished the pillow off with a burgundy bullion fringe along with a burgundy pom-pom trim with a large burgundy bead. This was to give it a little sparkle and pizazz. The back is done in a multi color chenille which have the same colors as the needlepoint.

This one of a kind pillow measures approx. 21” x 21”. There is a zipper closure for your convenience and a down and feather insert for a plush look and feel. The entire pillow is lined for extra durability. This pillow should last another 200 years. It is in excellent newly created condition combining the old (needlepoint and metallic trim) with the new (all the other elements). It comes from a smoke free home.
